IMT embarrasses itself yet again, denounces removal of President Castillo of Peru as an ‘imperialist coup’

Pedro Castillo, the crank who was removed as President of Peru this week

I was just telling a Facebook friend and former IMT member yesterday that it would not surprise me if the organisation came out denouncing the deposition of Pedro Castillo of Peru as an ‘imperialist coup’, despite the utter disaster his tenure has been, such that his own party has abandoned him. After a failed attempt to launch a coup against his own government and seize absolute power for himself, the disgraced ex-President attempted to flee the country and was arrested. Lo and behold, Jorge Martin has indeed posted something in the last few hours about the crisis, denouncing it as the work of the CIA (without any evidence, of course). I have not read (and have no intention of reading) the article, as it would be an utter waste of my time. However, I can guarantee that there will be either no mention of the attempted coup, or it will be justified as a response to ‘counter-revolutionary sabotage’. Those on his own side who denounced him and abandoned him will be denounced as ‘wreckers’ and ‘petty-bourgeois’, and the police, army and security services, all of whom refused to cooperate with his loony scheme, will be added to the list of agents of imperialism.

Let us remind anyone who is not familiar with Peruvian politics that Castillo won power in July 2021 after a hard-fought battle with Keiko Fujimori, the daughter of former Peruvian President and dictator Alberto Fujimori, in which the far-left firebrand was only able to defeat Fujimori and her far-right supporters by taking an extremely reactionary stance on LGBT rights and other issues. Not only is he a demented homophobe (not terribly ‘progressive’ for a supposedly left-wing politician) and an apologist for the Maoist terror organisation Shining Path, but since his disastrous tenure began, he has consistently appointed other know-nothings and cranks to important positions, including a former Prime Minister who idiotically praised Hitler in a speech he gave on infrastructure, and has been utterly incapable of dealing with the cost-of-living crisis in the country. His latest stunt was nothing less than an attempted repeat of what his predecessor Alberto Fujimori did more successfully many years ago, and launch a self-coup aimed at giving himself more power. To this end he attempted to illegally shut down the legislature and rule by decree, just hours before he was to be impeached by said Congress.

The IMT’s ridiculous article is the latest embarrassment for this ridiculous cult. Any sane person reading this drivel can only respond with laughter. If they wish to destroy what little reputation they have left defending this idiot, let them do so.

  1. I thought Jorge Martin was the ‘expert’ on Ukraine. He knows Peru too? ‘Was there an alternative? Yes. The alternative was to call the masses onto the streets, to disband Congress and to convene a National Revolutionary Assembly, and combine that with the striking of blows against the political and economic power of the capitalist oligarchy…’ yeah ok, that’s exactly what almost happened. Just a hair off
